JoJo -- Plant shopping!

Yay! Moe and I are going plant shopping today.
Yes, I know, a real permaculturalist would have permacultural friends who had snippets and seed they could give us. I'm just a wanna be. And I'm totally excited to be going plant shopping!

Actually, that's not totally true -- it turns out that I do know a lot of people who know way more about this stuff than I do (thank goodness) who do have actual functioning gardens. We just haven't developed our relationships in the direction of plant swapping yet. On Friday I learned from one such friend that butterfly bush is a really bad idea in Washington -- it's actually considered a noxious weed. Oops. Strike that from the shopping list.
In the spot I had planned for the butterfly bush, I'm going to put a pomegranate tree instead. How cool is that?! I'm so excited.
Spot and I also decided to take out one of our 3 plum trees and plant a persimmon in it's place. And I'm hoping to pick up a couple of columnar apple trees today.

If all goes as planned, this will be the food-bearing plant count by the end of the day:

Already:
3 plum trees
1 pear tree
1 cherry tree
4 blueberry bushes
2 elderberry bushes
Rosemary
Sage

New:
1 persimmon tree
1 pomegranate tree
2 columnar apple trees
1 salal
Yarrow
Fennel
Wild strawberry (maybe)
1 red-flowering current (maybe)
1 high-bush cranberry (maybe)
1 evergreen huckleberry (maybe)
1 gooseberry (maybe)
